Let me introduce to you Remi Aaron. A photographer from London, he experiments with professionalism and his own style. I interviewed him earlier this week to get the low down on himself and his work...
So, what interested you in Photography?
I fell into photography completely by accident, I always had a preference of moving image such as television and films. I saw photography as “arty” but when I got my hand on a digital SLR and applied what I knew from video cameras to the DSLR I fell in love. I came into photography the wrong way as people normal go from stills to moving images.
How long have you been doing it for?
I only started with photography properly when I started uni in 2007 as I had to do it in a module, before that I had a waste piece of digital camera & my phone which I used to take a lot of pictures with but I’ve only been taking it serious in the past 12 months as I received my digital SLR as a birthday present.
Do you think you would do this as a career? If not would you put your skills in another field?
I’ll definitely continue with photography regardless what I do in my career. I plan to work within bout still and moving image in my career. This I hope will give me greater freedom with what I want to do when I leave uni next year. I already have rave and wedding photography experience under my belt.
Who are your inspirations?
I wouldn’t say that I have any inspirations in terms of people, I don’t tend to watch what people are doing but I concentrate on how I can improve myself. As long as the people I surround myself are making moves and on the same wavelength as me then I don’t have to watch other people. I’m influenced highly by music however funky house/grime/reggae/soca certain songs can give me a kick up the arse which alot of people say I need lol
What do you love and hate about what you do?
I love taking pictures I feel that when I’m behind any camera I can distance myself from what pisses me off on a daily basis. I like that it gets me to go places I never would have before (media as a whole) like filming for a uni project on the North Sea in Essex to going on missions round the backstreets of Bradford trying to find a picture that sums up the town. I love meeting new people who I can learn from. In terms of hate I don’t really hate photography. I just dislike not getting paid lol and how long Photoshop can be (I rarely ever use it with good reason)
With other photographers like Tim & Barry, do you think that you could make a name for yourself in the photography world?
Mos Def! Music photography is something I’m interested in as Music fuels me and I can’t turn down any opportunity to skank it out. I’m already taking photographs in raves in Luton so I don’t see y I should take it to the next level and get about!!! I will in time make inroads into that but I have loads of options and aint looking to par any of them!
Finally, what is your next project?
Boi its mainly uni still, but normally I keep stuff like this under wraps but yeah there should be a General Clothing (do a facebook search asap) coming up within a month or 2. I’m starting hopefully to in December to start travelling to various cities across the country and portray my impressions of the place in a series of photographs as well as raves in and around Luton. Got my special project coming up in uni so look out for the final product around May times so yeah it’s a busy next couple of months. Theres more ventures but I’ve given you too much already jus add me on facebook to keep up with me (search Remi Aaron)
